Unit 2-11 Hokum Blues
A controversial or dangerous type of music for white people because of the sexuality of the lyrics. Both black and white stars were part of Hokum Blues. Playful and with double entendres and metaphors, not really intended for kids.
Unit 2-10 Gospel
Influenced both harmony and solo singing in rhythm n blues. Examples are 'call and response' singing. Often a conflict between music of the church and the music of the bars in the evening. (God's music and the Devil's music.)
Unit 2-10 Doo Wop
Doo Wop could possibly be seen as a forerunner to hiphop as it appeared to be competition between different groups to see who could produce the best vocal music (like hiphop and dance). They were mainly local groups who sang acapello style (no instruments just voice) Recording studios gave them a backing track to sing over.
